What happened
CMS published Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz’s Medicare open enrollment message on October 23, 2025. In CMS’s description of the message, open enrollment runs through December 7; plans can change every year and so can a person’s health; and enrollees who review their coverage options and compare plans may find they can save money, get better coverage, or both.
Why it matters
The annual open-enrollment message is the CMS administrator’s most direct address to the roughly Medicare-eligible public his agency serves, and the compare-plans push is the consumer-facing half of the administration’s Medicare cost argument — the same argument Oz makes on drug pricing and Medicare Advantage overpayments in his policy announcements.
