What happened

President Donald Trump welcomed two collegiate championship baseball teams from Louisiana to the White House on October 20, 2025, accompanied by LSU Tigers head coach Jay Johnson and LSU Shreveport Pilots head coach Brad Neffendorf. “We’re joined today [by] two collegiate championship baseball teams from the great state of Louisiana. Two teams that were absolutely the top,” he said.

Of the Tigers, the 2025 NCAA College World Series champions, he noted the closing run as he stated it: an eight-game win streak and a two-game sweep of Coastal Carolina in the finals for “the eighth national baseball title in LSU history,” with pitcher Kade Anderson named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. Of the Pilots, the 2025 NAIA national champions, he said: “This year, the Pilots became the first and only college baseball team in history to go a full season totally undefeated.” The President also pointed the teams to the ballroom rising behind them — “They’ve wanted a ballroom for 150 years” — saying the new room will hold 999 people.

Why it matters

The visit honors two champions from one state system in a single ceremony — a World Series winner and the first undefeated team in college baseball history, as the President stated it — recorded on the Elections & Governance hub.
