What happened
President Donald Trump hosted a dinner at the White House on October 15, 2025, for the donors funding the new White House ballroom. “It’s a real honor to be with you. I got back from the Middle East. We had a really historic trip,” he told the room. “We made tremendous progress on peace in the Middle East… And we got the hostages back, which was a big deal.”
He framed the dinner’s purpose directly: the guests were there “because you’ve given tremendous amounts of money to see a ballroom built for the first time at the White House. The White House, for 150 years plus, they’ve wanted” one. Turning to the remaining war, he said: “We’ve settled now eight wars… Now we have another one left. One of the easier ones I thought was going to be Russia. I thought the Russia-Ukraine would be easy… A lot of people are being killed in that war. That war’s the bloodiest war since the Second World War.” As he stated the toll, “7,212, they say, last week died.”
Why it matters
The dinner is the ballroom project’s donor set piece — the President reporting the Middle East outcome to the private funders of the White House’s largest addition in generations — recorded on the Elections & Governance hub.
