What happened

President Donald Trump announced a drug-pricing agreement with AstraZeneca in the Oval Office on October 10, 2025. “Today, I’m excited to announce another historic achievement in our quest to lower drug prices for all Americans,” he said. AstraZeneca — “the largest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the United Kingdom,” as he described it — “is committing to offer Americans major discounts on their vast catalog of prescription drugs,” under “a most favored nation’s pricing clause. So, most favored nation is you’re going to pay whatever the lowest price anywhere in the world is, that’s what you’re going to be paying.”

An administration speaker at the event placed the deal in sequence: “last week we had Pfizer, which is one of the biggest American pharmaceutical companies. Today we have [AstraZeneca],” crediting tariff leverage for making the agreements possible, and noting that he and Dr. Mehmet Oz had initially been pessimistic about achieving most-favored-nation pricing.

Why it matters

The AstraZeneca agreement is the second most-favored-nation drug-pricing deal in two weeks, extending the model from a U.S. manufacturer to the United Kingdom’s largest — the administration’s stated template for the rest of the industry. It is recorded on the Health & MAHA hub.
