What happened
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on September 30, 2025, which he called “a very historic executive order to massively accelerate pediatric cancer research and harness the extraordinary potential of artificial intelligence to fight this terrible disease.” Children affected by cancer joined the signing. The event doubled the investment in the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative he had launched in 2019 — “doubling that investment, adding another $50 million,” as stated at the event.
Present and thanked by the President were HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Education Secretary Linda McMahon, CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, and NIH Director Jay Bhattacharyya. The President also said, as he stated it to Secretary McMahon, that a deal with Harvard had been reached that day and remained to be papered.
Why it matters
The order puts artificial intelligence and the federal childhood-cancer data infrastructure behind pediatric research, with the initiative’s funding doubled on camera. It is recorded on the Health & MAHA hub.
