What happened
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth introduced the President at Marine Corps Base Quantico, where the Department of War had gathered its senior generals, admirals, and flag officers from posts around the world. Hegseth said he watches the President “put America first” every day and ensure that warfighters have what they need.
President Trump told the assembled leaders the United States has “the greatest and most elite fighting force in the history of the world,” credited his first term with rebuilding the military, and said allied commitments to raise military spending would strengthen alliances and make war less likely. He said Hegseth would soon announce major reforms to streamline military acquisitions and speed foreign military sales, pressed defense contractors to produce equipment and ammunition faster, and said his administration would make further announcements “to fully embrace the identity of the Department of War.”
Why it matters
This is the signature address of the Department of War era: the commander-in-chief speaking directly to the flag-officer corps Hegseth assembled, with Hegseth’s acquisitions and foreign-military-sales reforms named as the follow-through. It is a core record for Hegseth’s tracked tenure at the department.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: the President’s statement at Quantico that Secretary Hegseth will announce major reforms to streamline military acquisitions and expedite foreign military sales — as stated at the event, to be checked against the department’s announcements.
