What happened
Departing for the Ryder Cup with his granddaughter Kai, President Trump said, “I think we have a deal on Gaza — very close to a deal on Gaza,” describing an agreement that would return the hostages, end the war, and be “number eight” among the conflicts he says he has settled.
Most of the gaggle addressed the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Asked whether others would follow, the President said, “It’s not a list, but I think there’ll be others,” called Comey “a dirty cop,” and said Comey had lied to Congress: “He got caught lying.” Asked whether the case was about justice or revenge, he answered: “It’s about justice. It’s not revenge. It’s also about the fact that you can’t let this go on.”
Why it matters
The President’s first on-camera comments on the Comey indictment — his insistence that it is “about justice,” his expectation of further cases, and his reasoning about the alleged false statement — are the baseline record for the Justice & Crime hub’s tracking of the case.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: the President’s September 26, 2025 statements that the Comey prosecution is “about justice” and that he expects “others” to follow — as stated by the President, to be checked against the Justice Department’s subsequent actions.
