What happened

President Donald Trump addressed a meeting of the Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty at the Museum of the Bible in Washington on September 8, 2025, carried on the White House channel. Attorney General Pam Bondi introduced him, saying the administration had “dropped FACE Act cases against pro-life Christians, stopped the FBI from spying on Catholics,” launched investigations into antisemitism in schools, and was “aggressively prosecuting vicious crimes against Jewish Americans,” as she stated the record.

The President framed the commission’s work as national renewal: “America was founded on faith, as we know… And when faith gets weaker, our country seems to get weaker. When faith gets stronger, as it is right now, we’re having a very good period of time.” He answered Senator Tim Kaine’s statement that rights coming from a creator was “extremely troubling”: “As everyone in this room understands, it is tyrants who are denying our rights and the rights that come from God… The senator from Virginia should be ashamed of himself.” He thanked commission chairman Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Dr. Ben Carson, and announced the session’s policy item: that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in public schools, as he announced it.

Why it matters

The Museum of the Bible session is the religious-liberty agenda’s set piece of the fall: the Attorney General’s enforcement account, the President’s creator-rights argument against a sitting senator’s framing, and a dated Education Department guidance commitment — the commission, chaired by Dan Patrick, is the body carrying that agenda inside the White House.

Scoreboard watch

This address is a scoreboard candidate: the President’s September 8, 2025 announcement that the Department of Education would soon issue guidance protecting prayer in public schools — to be checked against the guidance as issued.
