What happened

President Donald Trump hosted President Karol Nawrocki of Poland at the White House on September 3, 2025, for a bilateral meeting carried on the White House channel — Nawrocki’s first White House visit, one month after his inauguration. The President noted he had endorsed Nawrocki: “He had an incredible race. He came from behind and he won very handily… I don’t endorse too many people, but I endorsed him and I was very proud of that.”

Nawrocki thanked the President for the invitation and the endorsement: “It means that the Polish-American relations are very important, very strong. I think that we have so strong relations that we have never had.” He pointed to the Polish diaspora in the United States — “almost more than 10 million people here” — and to the shared heroes Pułaski and Kościuszko, and said the two would discuss the economy and military matters. The meeting opened with a military flyover the President said was “very much in honor of your great pilot who just passed away recently, who was a legend in Poland”; Nawrocki identified the pilot as Major Maciej Krakowian, one of Poland’s best, whose death left two children, and noted Poland is waiting for its F-35s. Asked whether American soldiers would remain in Poland, the President answered: “Yeah, I think so.”

Why it matters

The Nawrocki visit is an endorsement repaid on camera and a basing answer given on the record — U.S. troops staying in Poland, as the President stated it — with the F-35 relationship and the fallen-pilot flyover giving the alliance its human frame a month into the new Polish presidency.
