What happened

President Donald Trump convened his cabinet at the White House on August 26, 2025, and opened the meeting to the press for more than three hours, carried in full on the White House channel. Opening ahead of Labor Day, he said “every policy of the Trump administration is designed to lift up the American worker, promote great-paying blue-collar jobs, and to rebuild the industrial bedrock of our nation.”

His opening review, as he stated it: blue-collar wages “rising at the fastest rate in 60 years,” with the average worker having “already seen a $500 wage increase this year”; energy prices down, with oil “close to $60 a barrel” and gasoline at $2.25 in many places and $2 in some; and groceries down. On Ukraine, he described the NATO arrangement from his summit trip: allies moved “from 2% to 5% of GDP,” the United States is selling missiles and equipment to NATO rather than funding the war — “they’re funding the entire war. We’re not funding anything” — while working to stop the killing. Cabinet members then reported in turn around the table.

Why it matters

The August 26 meeting is the administration’s Labor Day stock-taking in its own words — the wage, energy, and NATO-funding claims the President chose to lead with, preserved in full as the primary-source record against which the weekly scoreboard checks the published data.

Scoreboard watch

This meeting carries scoreboard-watch claims as stated by the President: the fastest blue-collar wage growth in 60 years and a $500 average wage increase this year; oil near $60 a barrel; and the NATO 2%-to-5% funding shift with U.S. equipment sales replacing U.S. war funding. The scoreboard will check them against the BLS, EIA, and NATO figures as they publish.
