What happened

Vice President JD Vance addressed workers at ALTA Refrigeration, Inc. in Peachtree City, Georgia, on August 21, 2025 — a manufacturer whose refrigeration products, he noted, go into Chick-fil-A restaurants — with Congressman Brian Jack, whom he credited as “a critical part” of passing the tax law. The pitch was the carrot and the stick: “We want to make it easier to build in America. We want make it harder to build overseas.” Companies building abroad, he said, “are going to pay a big fat tariff before you bring that crap back into the United States of America.”

On what the Working Families Tax Cut means for the workers in front of him, Vance stated: “your take-home pay is going to go up over $10,000 over the next few years,” because “if you’re working an hour of overtime, the federal government is going keep its money the hell out of your pocket.” He cited the end of taxes on tips — recalling his own mother’s time waiting tables — the increased child tax credit, and what he called “the biggest tax cut for families that this country has ever seen.” He argued Medicaid “belongs to American workers and American families” and that the only people who would lose health coverage under the law are “illegal aliens who shouldn’t be in this county to begin with,” as he stated the administration’s position, and he predicted Senator Jon Ossoff would campaign in 2026 as if he had supported a law he voted against. He closed the remarks by recalling a visit the day before to Washington’s Union Station, contrasting it with a 2023 family visit when, he said, a person screamed at his three-year-old — an example, in his telling, of leaders making streets “safe for criminals instead of safe for the people who pay our taxes.”

Why it matters

Peachtree City is the Georgia stop of the Vice President’s summer tax tour and the source of one of the tour’s most repeated, checkable numbers — the $10,000 take-home-pay figure — delivered in the home state of a Democratic senator the administration was already targeting for 2026.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard candidate: Vance’s August 21, 2025 statement that the Working Families Tax Cut will raise workers’ take-home pay by over $10,000 over the next few years, as stated at ALTA Refrigeration — to be checked against Treasury and Joint Committee on Taxation estimates as they publish.
