What happened
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed members of the media on July 23, 2025, carried on the White House channel. She opened with a message from the White House to the families of the victims in the Idaho murder case, who were addressing the court that day: “We are so sorry for the grief and the pain you have experienced at the hands of a vicious and evil killer. Our nation grieves with you.”
Leavitt then previewed that afternoon’s AI Summit, where the President would announce “a bold and comprehensive AI action plan to sustain and enhance America’s global AI dominance,” saying the President believes it is “non-negotiable that the United States wins the AI race.” In questions, much of the briefing turned on the declassified documents released by the Director of National Intelligence. Asked about the irony of past prosecutions of the President, Leavitt said: “now I think the declassification of all of these documents proves that they were indeed the true threat to democracy. And as I said repeatedly today, there needs to be justice and accountability for that.”
Why it matters
This briefing is the White House’s same-day bridge between its two July 23 storylines — the AI action plan unveiled that afternoon (paged separately) and the intelligence declassification the press corps pressed on — stated by the Press Secretary on the record.
