What happened
President Donald Trump hosted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines at the White House on July 22, 2025, for a bilateral meeting with press questions, carried on the White House channel. “It’s a great honor to have President Ferdinand Marcos” at the White House, the President said, in the greeting paged through this record.
In the question period, the President turned to the border: “We have the strongest border anywhere in the world now… We have no people came in last month. Zero. Which is pretty — I’m not even sure I can believe that,” he said, as he stated the figure. “A year ago, we had hundreds of thousands of people come in.” He also recounted the shooting of a police officer the day before — “a man shot yesterday, a police officer, who was a great gentleman. Shot right here at the throat” — as part of his case on crime and removals: “we’re getting them out, and we’re starting with the worst ones.”
Why it matters
The Marcos visit is the alliance record of that week — a treaty ally received at the White House — and the setting the President used to put his zero-entry border claim for the prior month on the record in front of a foreign head of state.
Scoreboard watch
This meeting is a scoreboard reference point: the President’s July 22, 2025 statement that no people entered across the border in the prior month, as stated by the President, to be checked against the published CBP encounter data.
