What happened
President Donald Trump hosted Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, at the White House on July 16, 2025, for a bilateral meeting with press questions, carried on the White House channel. The President called Bahrain “a fantastic ally” and said the two would discuss trade and the recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear capacity, which he described as “obliterated.”
The Crown Prince said the two countries would discuss security, trade, and investment, and announced: “We’re very happy to be announcing $17 billion worth of deals that are coming to the United States. And this is real… These aren’t fake deals. These are real deals.” In questions, the President said China had been “helping out” on fentanyl cooperation and was “making big steps,” as he stated it, while also being penalized with tariffs.
Why it matters
The Bahrain meeting is the Gulf-partnership record of that week — a $17 billion investment announcement made on camera by the visiting Crown Prince, in the same sitting the President used to state his read of China’s fentanyl cooperation ahead of that afternoon’s HALT Fentanyl signing, paged separately.
