What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from the press before departing the White House for Pittsburgh on July 15, 2025, carried on the White House channel. He previewed the trip as an AI investment announcement — “numbers like nobody’s ever heard before… literally trillions of dollars of investments being made in our country on AI.”

On inflation, the President called the latest rise “very slight, essentially… exactly as anticipated, very low inflation. So, what you should do is lower the rate. The Fed should lower the rate immediately.” On education, he welcomed the Supreme Court’s win for the administration and restated the goal “to bring education back to the states,” with school choice “the answer.” On Russia, asked about the 50-day deadline, he said: “at the end of 50 days, if we don’t have a deal, going to be too bad… the tariffs are going to go on and other sanctions go on.”

Why it matters

This departure gaggle states, in one exchange set, the three pressure campaigns of that week — on the Fed to cut, on Russia against the 50-day clock he had set the day before with Secretary General Rutte, and on the states-first education agenda — each in the President’s own words before he boarded.

Scoreboard watch

This gaggle is a scoreboard reference point: the President’s July 15, 2025 restatement that tariffs and sanctions would follow if no Russia deal came within 50 days, as stated by the President, to be checked against the deadline record.
