What happened
President Donald Trump addressed the White House Faith Office Luncheon with business and faith leaders on July 14, 2025, carried on the White House channel, arriving directly from his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, paged separately. He opened with the arrangement struck that day: “We’re going to supply weapons to NATO at a large amount, they’re going to deliver the weapons, and they’re going to pay for 100 percent of the weapons… they’re going to deliver those weapons immediately to the site of the war… and they’re going to pay for 100 percent of them.”
The President credited the alliance’s move from 2 to 5 percent defense spending for making the arrangement possible, contrasted it with the prior administration’s burden — “we were in for $350 billion” against Europe’s $100 billion, as he stated the figures — and turned to the domestic record, including June’s Treasury surplus and the signing, ten days earlier, of “the One Big Beautiful Bill into law… the biggest bill of its kind ever passed by far,” as he described it. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick were among the administration officials in the room he addressed by name.
Why it matters
The Faith Office luncheon remarks are where the President explained the NATO weapons arrangement to a domestic audience in his own words — the alliance paying in full and delivering — making this page the explanatory companion to the Rutte meeting itself.
