What happened
President Donald Trump took questions from the press on Air Force One on July 1, 2025, returning from the Alligator Alcatraz opening in Florida, carried on the White House channel. “The bill passed, and I think it’s going to do very well in the House. We’ll see how that works out. But it looks like it’s ahead of schedule,” he said of the Senate’s action. “This was great today, going down to Florida and seeing what Homeland and Ron and everybody else have been able to do in a very short period of time.”
Asked about Rep. Thomas Massie, the President said Massie is “always a no. They call him Rand Paul Jr.,” and predicted an endorsed challenger would beat him — “a poll just came out, and it showed anybody I endorse against Massie, Massie loses by 25 points,” as he stated the figure. On the House path, he said the Senate had been the tougher chamber, that the package had “something for everybody,” and that quick House action remained possible even if changes forced a fast return to the Senate, as he described the process.
Why it matters
This Air Force One gaggle is the President’s same-day readout of the bill’s Senate passage and his open campaign against a Republican holdout — the legislative whip operation and the intra-party enforcement stated together, in his own words, on the flight home.
Scoreboard watch
This gaggle is a scoreboard reference point: the President’s July 1, 2025 prediction that an endorsed challenger would defeat Rep. Massie by 25 points in a poll he cited, as stated by the President, to be checked against the Kentucky primary record.
