What happened

President Donald Trump held a press conference at the conclusion of the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, on June 25, 2025, carried in full on the White House channel. “I want to thank you for joining us at the conclusion of a highly productive NATO summit in the Netherlands,” he said, thanking the Dutch king and queen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and pointing to the allies’ agreement on the 5 percent defense-investment commitment reached at the summit.

On Iran, the President repeated his characterization of the previous weekend’s strike: “Last weekend the United States successfully carried out a massive precision strike on Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities and it was very, very successful. It was called obliteration. No other military on earth could have done it,” as he stated the result. On Ukraine, he said of his meeting with President Zelenskyy that “he’d like to see it end,” adding: “I think it’s a great time to end it. I’m going to speak to Vladimir Putin and see if we can get it ended,” and citing, as he stated the figure, close to 7,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers killed the previous week.

Why it matters

This hour-long press conference is the President’s own closing account of the Hague summit: the 5 percent commitment as the summit’s deliverable, the Iran strike defended in his chosen word, and a stated intention to press Putin directly on ending the Ukraine war.

Scoreboard candidate

Scoreboard candidate: the NATO allies’ 5 percent of GDP defense-investment commitment as announced at the June 25, 2025 summit, and the President’s statement that he would speak to President Putin about ending the war — flagged for the scoreboard editors; the entry itself remains review-gated.
