What happened
President Donald Trump took questions from the press on Air Force One on June 24, 2025, in the second of two gaggles the White House channel carried that day. “We have breaking news. Israel, as you know, turned back. They didn’t do that raid this morning. Fortunately, that was a big thing. Appreciate it. They had a lot of planes going and they were going to do something and they didn’t do it. We’re happy about that. Very happy about that. So the ceasefire is very much in effect and I think we’re going to keep it there for a long time,” he said.
Asked whether he had spoken to Prime Minister Netanyahu, the President said: “I did. Said you got to turn back the planes. They were going to go because — look, they hit him very hard after we made the deal yesterday. They were entitled to, but nobody thought that would have happened.” Asked about meeting President Zelenskyy at the summit, he said: “Yeah, probably. I’ll see him,” and on the 5 percent question he repeated that he was “the one that said that’s what they should be paying,” as he stated his authorship of the target.
Why it matters
Paired with the morning’s departure gaggle, this second Air Force One gaggle completes the ceasefire’s first day in the President’s own telling: his call to Netanyahu, Israel’s recalled raid, and his judgment that the ceasefire would hold ‘for a long time.’
Scoreboard watch
This gaggle is a scoreboard reference point: the President’s June 24, 2025 statement that the Israel-Iran ceasefire was ‘very much in effect’ and would be kept ‘for a long time,’ as stated by the President, to be checked against the ceasefire record.
