What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from the press at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey on June 20, 2025, carried on the White House channel. He opened with the Congo-Rwanda diplomacy: “We just learned that Rwanda and the Congo will be doing a peace settlement probably coming in on Monday or Tuesday. We’re going to be signing it up and we’ve stopped the very vicious war,” he said, thanking Vice President Vance and adding: “Our Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has done a fantastic job,” as he credited them. He listed the administration’s other peacemaking claims — India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo — and said of Russia-Ukraine that it was “making a little bit of progress,” as he stated the status.

On NATO spending ahead of the Hague summit, asked about Spain, he said: “Spain’s been a very low payer. They were always a very low payer. They were either good negotiators or they weren’t doing the right thing. I think Spain has to pay what everybody else has to pay. Spain has been notorious for low pay,” as he stated the criticism.

Why it matters

This airport gaggle is the preview reel for the following week in the President’s own words: the Congo-Rwanda signing he would host on June 27, the peacemaking list he campaigns on, and the Spain call-out that set up the summit’s 5 percent fight.
