What happened

President Donald Trump hosted the Juventus Football Club of Italy in the Oval Office on June 18, 2025, carried on the White House channel, during the club’s trip for the FIFA Club World Cup. “We have a great team behind us — Juventus of Italy — and a friend of mine is the owner of the team. He’s a fantastic businessperson, a young guy,” the President said of John Elkann, crediting his family’s record of ownership in soccer and his work in the automobile industry.

With FIFA President Gianni Infantino present, the President noted the club’s match that night in Washington: “We have a game tonight — where is it? Over in D.C., the stadium — and it’s totally sold out, I hope, right?” He singled out the squad’s two American players: “You have two great American players on this team. Where are you, my American players? They’re fantastic. So good luck — I hope you’re going to be the two best players on the field,” as he addressed them. The session then opened to press questions, which ranged beyond soccer to Iran and domestic matters.

Why it matters

The Juventus visit is the Oval Office face of the administration’s World Cup buildup: the FIFA president, a marquee European club, and the President using a sold-out Washington match to promote the tournaments the United States is hosting.
