What happened

President Donald Trump participated in a pull-aside with Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom at the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on June 17, 2025, carried on the White House channel. “We just signed it and it’s done. And so we have our trade agreement,” the President said, holding up the signed document. “It’s a fair deal for both, going to produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income,” as he characterized it.

Prime Minister Starmer confirmed the scope: “This now implements on car tariffs and aerospace — our really important agreement — and so this is a very good day for both of our countries, a real sign of strength,” as Starmer stated it. Taking questions, the President addressed the Israel-Iran conflict: “I gave Iran 60 days and they said no, and the 61st you saw what happened, day 61,” he said, adding: “I think a deal will be signed or something will happen, but a deal will be signed, and I think Iran is foolish not to sign one,” as he stated his expectation.

Why it matters

This pull-aside is the implementation moment for the first of the administration’s bilateral trade deals: the signed document, its car-tariff and aerospace scope stated by the British prime minister himself, and the President’s 60-day account of the Iran diplomacy delivered on the same record.
