What happened

Vice President JD Vance delivered brief remarks at the Grand Military Parade marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Army in Washington, D.C., on the evening of June 14, 2025, before introducing the President. He stated the administration’s pledge to the force: “we must remember that the young men and women who put on the uniform and serve this nation are our most precious resource,” and “the way that we honor and respect you is number one, we never ask you to go to war unless you absolutely have to. And number two, when we do ask you to go to war, we give you the weapons and the support needed to kick the hell out of the enemy and come back home safely.” He noted the day was also the President’s birthday and his own wedding anniversary, and then introduced “the 45th and 47th commander-in-chief of the United States military, President Donald J. Trump.”

Why it matters

Short as it is, this is the Vice President’s on-record statement of the administration’s war pledge — war only when necessary, and overwhelming support when it comes — delivered at the Army’s 250th birthday parade, the signature military celebration of 2025.
