What happened

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum testified before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on the President’s fiscal year 2026 budget request for the Department of the Interior, in a hearing led on the Democratic side by Ranking Member Senator Heinrich, published by the committee’s Democrats on June 12, 2025. The committee’s description states that Secretary Burgum testified on behalf of the Administration.

Why it matters

The Energy and Natural Resources Committee is Burgum’s authorizing committee — the panel that confirmed him — and its annual budget hearing is the oversight counterpart to the confirmation commitments he made in January 2025.
