What happened

President Donald Trump participated in a roundtable discussion with the Fraternal Order of Police at the White House on June 5, 2025, carried on the White House channel, joined by FOP President Patrick Yoes and the executive board “representing nearly 400,000 officers nationwide,” as the President noted, and by Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I was delighted to earn your endorsement in every one of my presidential campaigns,” he said. “I’m proud to stand with you today as the most police president, I would say, without question in the history of America.”

The President listed his law-enforcement actions: “We’ve ended the use of lawfare against police officers and terminated unjustified federal consent decrees. I signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice to provide legal protection and financial support for officers targeted by very frivolous lawsuits,” he said, adding that he had ordered agencies to boost police recruitment, retention, and pay funding “and I’ve asked Attorney General Bondi to pursue the death penalty for anyone convicted of killing a police officer,” as he stated the directive. FOP Vice President Joe Gamaldi thanked the administration for its deportation effort, saying officers in sanctuary cities were “tired of arresting the same people over and over again who never should have been here in the first place,” as Gamaldi stated the complaint.

Why it matters

This roundtable is the police-union partnership stated on the record: the endorsement relationship acknowledged by both sides, the consent-decree and legal-protection actions listed by the President, and the death-penalty directive for officer killings announced to the officers themselves.
