What happened

President Donald Trump sat down with business leaders in Doha, Qatar, on May 15, 2025, in a roundtable carried on the White House channel, hours before departing for the United Arab Emirates.

The President framed the trip as an economic record: “This has been an amazing trip,” he said. “We’re the hottest country of the world right now. And six months ago, they were laughing at the United States, but they don’t laugh anymore.” Putting a figure on the tour as a whole, he said: “It could be a total of three and a half, four trillion dollars. Just in this four or five days.” He repeated his administration’s running investment tally — “at least 10 trillion dollars of investment and potential investment” — and pointed to individual commitments he named at the table, including Apple’s $500 billion and a chip investment he put at $600 billion with a factory in Arizona.

He also previewed the diplomacy around the trip, saying his administration was giving Yemen and Syria “a chance”: of the Houthis, he said their emissaries had committed that “they’re not going to be blowing ships out of the water anymore,” as he described the arrangement.

Why it matters

The roundtable is the Qatar leg’s business set piece — the President making his investment case directly to executives mid-trip, and putting his own headline figure ($3.5–4 trillion) on the tour’s announced commitments.
