What happened

President Donald Trump spoke briefly with the traveling press aboard Air Force One on May 15, 2025, on the flight from Qatar to the United Arab Emirates, in a gaggle carried on the White House channel.

“We’ll be landing just about now. This has been an amazing trip. We’ve raised trillions of dollars of investment for our country,” the President said. “And we’re dealing with really good people that have been abandoned in a way by our country and by the United States. And we’re not going to abandon. We have very good friends in Saudi Arabia and in Qatar. So now we’re going to UAE.” He added a concern about the region’s alignment: the Gulf states had “felt bad that they were going to be captured by China from the standpoint” of drifting toward Beijing, as he put it.

Why it matters

A short en-route availability between the Qatar and UAE legs — the President’s mid-trip readout, framing the Gulf states as recovered American partners and the trip as an investment haul, in his own words.
