What happened

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the press in Antalya, Türkiye, on May 15, 2025, according to the State Department broadcast, which carries the full remarks. The availability came during Rubio’s travel to Türkiye for NATO meetings, ahead of his onward travel to Rome and the Vatican for the inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV, per the Department’s travel advisories that week.

Why it matters

A traveling-press availability is where a Secretary’s positions are stated on the record between formal meetings — here, Rubio speaking from a NATO stop in the middle of the President’s first international trip of the term, with the alliance and the wider regional agenda in front of him.
