What happened
President Donald Trump spoke with the traveling press aboard Air Force One on May 14, 2025, on the flight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar, in a gaggle carried on the White House channel.
The President opened with the escort awaiting the plane — “The jet fighters will be surrounding the plane in about seven minutes” — and a joking exchange about a reporter who had been kept out of an earlier event: “Karoline saved you. You’re lucky,” he said, crediting Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Asked how the trip was going, he said: “It’s going very well. I think it’s been going well. Great relationships. And now we’re meeting with a group that’s fantastic. The Emir is a great guy. I know him. I know them all very” well, as he put it, previewing the Qatar stop.
Why it matters
The en-route availability between the Saudi and Qatar legs — the President’s own mid-trip assessment and his framing of the Emir ahead of the Doha state visit and signing ceremony paged alongside it in this chronicle.
