What happened

President Donald Trump addressed the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on May 13, 2025, on the first day of his Gulf trip, in a speech carried on the White House channel.

Thanking Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — “He’s an incredible man. Known him a long time now. There’s nobody like him” — the President framed the visit as a renewal: “Today, we reaffirm this important bond and we take the next steps to make our relationship closer, stronger, and more powerful than ever before.” On the economics, he said: “with this trip, we’re adding over $1 trillion more in terms of investment and investment into our country and buying our products,” and announced, “in addition to purchases of $142 billion of American-made military equipment by our great Saudi partners, the largest ever this week.” He pointed to “multibillion-dollar commercial deals with Amazon, Oracle, AMD” among the forum’s transactions, and repeated his running tally of more than $10 trillion in investment announced or coming since the election.

Why it matters

The forum address is the Saudi leg’s centerpiece speech: the state visit converted into an investment announcement — the $142 billion military-purchase figure and the trip’s $1 trillion-plus investment claim, both as the President stated them on stage in Riyadh.
