What happened
President Donald Trump delivered Investing in America remarks at the White House on Apr. 30, 2025, carried on the White House channel, before business leaders and members of his Cabinet during the administration’s first-100-days week. “Since the election, the companies represented in this room have collectively announced more than $2 trillion in new investments. And we have a total of close to eight trillion dollars all told,” the President said, crediting the election result and, as he put it, intelligently used tariffs.
The President introduced executives and their pledges as he stated them, including Hyundai’s $21 billion including a $5.8 billion Louisiana steel plant, IBM’s $150 billion, and SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son, whose earlier $100 billion commitment the President said had grown - Son described the Stargate commitment with Oracle and OpenAI from the podium. The President also said the administration’s tax bill “will include 100% expensing retroactive to January 20th,” planned for a four-year period at a full 100%, as he stated the provision.
Why it matters
The event is the set-piece investment tally of the first 100 days: the President’s $8 trillion headline figure, the named company pledges, and the 100-percent expensing promise, all stated by the President and the executives themselves in one room.
