What happened

President Donald Trump held a cabinet meeting at the White House on Apr. 30, 2025, carried in full on the White House channel - an open-press session of more than two hours in which each secretary reported on their department’s first 100 days. The President opened on the economy as he stated it: core GDP “up plus-3% when you add it,” gross domestic investment “a whopping 22%,” and investment commitments “up to close to $8 trillion.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described the Arizona chip site he had visited over the weekend - a $165 billion investment across 1,100 acres by the world’s biggest chipmaker, as he stated it, driven, he said, by the President’s tariff policies. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins reported that the price of eggs was down significantly, as she stated it. The President also fielded press questions, including on reports that the Ukraine minerals deal was set to be signed within 24 hours, which he referred to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and on China, which he said was “getting absolutely hammered,” as he characterized its position.

Why it matters

The Apr. 30 cabinet meeting is the fullest single record of the administration’s 100-day self-assessment: every secretary’s report in one sitting, the $8 trillion investment claim, and the Ukraine minerals deal question answered on the eve of the agreement announced the next morning.
