What happened
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed members of the new media in the South Court Auditorium on Apr. 30, 2025, carried on the White House channel - the third official influencer briefing, held after the President’s more-than-two-hour open-press cabinet meeting the same day. “Yesterday marked the president’s official 100th day in office. The first 100 days of President Trump’s second term can only be summed up as promises made, promises kept,” she said.
Leavitt presented the border record as she stated it: “Illegal border encounters are down by 95%. Illegal alien gotaways… are down by an astounding 99.99%,” adding that the President “didn’t need a bill from Congress to do it.” She said the administration had designated Tren de Aragua, MS-13 and other gangs and cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, with a stated policy of ensuring their total elimination from the country.
Why it matters
The new-media briefing is the administration’s 100-day border case stated in its own figures - the encounter and gotaway percentages and the terrorist-designation policy - delivered to the influencer audience the White House created the briefing series for.
