What happened

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed the media on Apr. 11, 2025, carried on the White House channel, noting the President was undergoing his routine, long-scheduled physical at Walter Reed Medical Center, with a readout from the White House physician to follow.

Leavitt reported that Ksenia Karelina had arrived back safely in the United States the night before after being detained in Russia for more than a year, and said that since Inauguration Day President Trump and his team had secured the release of more than 40 detained Americans abroad - more than half the number released in four years under President Biden, in 80 days, as she stated the comparison.

On the economy, she cited the consumer price index report showing inflation fell to 2.4 percent in March, beating expectations for the second straight month, with the first drop in consumer prices since the COVID pandemic, the largest monthly decline in prescription drug prices on record, and energy prices down 2.4 percent in March, as she presented the figures. On trade, she said more than 75 countries had reached out eager to address trade issues, that the countries which heeded the President’s warning not to retaliate were rewarded with a 90-day pause and substantially lower reciprocal tariff rates, and that U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer had confirmed more than 15 offers already on the table.

Leavitt also announced that the registration deadline under the Alien Registration Act fell that day - all foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days must register with the federal government, and failure to comply is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both, as she stated it - and relayed the First Lady’s note celebrating the Take It Down Act’s advancement in the House Energy and Commerce Committee that week.

Why it matters

The Apr. 11 briefing is the administration’s own consolidated statement of its first-80-days claims - detained Americans returned, inflation prints, the tariff-pause negotiating window, and immigration-registration enforcement - each figure stated by the Press Secretary on the record and tracked on this site’s scoreboard files.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the figures stated in this briefing (40+ detained Americans released in 80 days; March CPI at 2.4%; 75+ countries seeking deals and 15+ offers on the table during the 90-day pause, all as stated by the Press Secretary) - flagged for the scoreboard editors; the entry itself remains review-gated.
