What happened
In his introductory video statement as the 17th Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, published April 10, 2025, Dr. Oz opens with the line he has repeated throughout his tenure: “Great societies protect their most vulnerable.” He pledges that CMS will provide Americans access to excellent care, especially disadvantaged youth, people with disabilities, and seniors, and says there is “a generational opportunity to give people power over their health” and to save the health-care system from costs rising faster than the economy.
“One of my first priorities is going to be to crush fraud, waste, and abuse,” he says, promising more news on that front soon. He thanks President Trump for his “courageous desire to Make America Healthy Again” and Secretary Kennedy for heading the charge at HHS, closing: “It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
Why it matters
This is the founding statement of Oz’s tenure — the priorities he named in his first week (vulnerable-populations care, cost, and above all fraud) are the ones the subsequent record, from the DME moratorium to the “War on Fraud” film, has been built on. The fraud pledge made here is the commitment the scoreboard’s fraud line ultimately measures.
