What happened
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Apr. 9, 2025 ending what he called the Biden-era war on showers, carried on the White House channel. A staffer presenting the order explained that the prior administration’s regulations had, in his words, killed the water pressure of showers and other water appliances - dishwashers, toilets and sinks among them - and that the order reverses that set of regulations “to ensure that Americans have choice in the consumer market. If they want a low-flow shower head, they can buy one. If they want a real deal shower head,” as the presentation put it.
The President described restrictors now welded into fixtures so they can no longer be removed: “You take a shower or wash your hands or whatever you do, including dishwashers, when no water comes out. But you wash your hands, and in my case I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair. Stand the shower for 15 minutes till it gets wet. It comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous,” as he stated it at the signing.
Why it matters
The shower order is one of the April 2025 energy-and-appliance actions in the President’s deregulation record - a small-bore order the White House presented as consumer choice, reversing flow restrictions the administration said the prior rules had locked into new fixtures.
