What happened
The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence held its open hearing on the 2025 Annual Worldwide Threats Assessment on March 26, 2025, in the Longworth House Office Building, one day after the same witnesses appeared before the Senate committee. The panel was Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, FBI Director Kash Patel, National Security Agency Director Gen. Timothy Haugh, and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, according to the committee’s hearing announcement; the committee’s own channel carried the hearing in full.
Chairman Rick Crawford, announcing the hearing, said the United States and its allies faced “an unprecedented myriad of threats,” citing the Chinese Communist Party’s growing influence and investment in the Western Hemisphere, Iran’s role as the largest state sponsor of terror, and Russia’s aggression. In his opening statement, Crawford noted the open portion was broadcast live on C-SPAN and streamed on the committee’s YouTube channel, conducted entirely on an unclassified basis, with one round of member questions before a closed session. As in the Senate the day before, members questioned the witnesses about their participation in the Signal group chat that had discussed Yemen strike plans, and about the threats posed by Russia and China, according to Lawfare’s summary of the hearing.
Why it matters
Back-to-back Senate and House threats hearings are the intelligence community’s annual public baseline. The House edition puts Ratcliffe and Patel before the committee that oversees both the CIA and the FBI’s intelligence work, and Crawford’s framing — China in the Western Hemisphere, Iran, and Russia — records the majority’s stated priorities against which the panel’s testimony is measured on this site.
