What happened

Vice President JD Vance administered the oath of office to Sean Duffy as Secretary of Transportation at the White House on January 29, 2025, in a ceremonial swearing-in carried by the White House — the day after Duffy’s Senate confirmation, per this site’s chronicle. Duffy took charge of the department that runs the nation’s highways, aviation, rail, and transit systems.

Why it matters

Duffy became one of the administration’s most visible cabinet secretaries, and this ceremony — Vance administering the oath in the administration’s first full week — marks the formal start of the tenure this site tracks through the Transportation Department’s own channels.
